Ancient Rome tour is a comprehensive tour that will show you all the main attractions of the ancient city, giving you all the needed info about the history of Imperial Rome.
You will meet your guide at the meeting point, close to the entrance of the Colosseum. You will join the privileged line with your skip-the-line tickets and get inside, to hear stories about the gladiators that fought in the amphitheater in front of 80,000 persons.
Next, you will visit the Roman Forum, the place where the public life of the most powerful metropolis of antiquity took place, and you will learn about the political intrigue that turned Rome from Kingdom to Republic to Empire.
Finally, you will visit the Palatine Hill, the legendary place where Rome was founded, to see the Imperial palaces from where Tiberius, Caligula, and Nero ruled the largest Empire in the world. In the late Imperial age, the Palatine Hill was filled with palaces at a point that the Latin word palatium started to indicate the palace par excellence.
This tour has a duration of three hours. Here is the itinerary of the tour:
- Roman Forum
- Palatine Hill
Meeting point: Colosseum, just outside Metro Line B exit, at the kiosk selling newspapers
Hotel pick-up: not available. We can organize your private transfer by car/van (one way or round trip)
Drop-off: Palatine Hill
Even with skip-the-line tickets, expect to wait some minutes to enter the Colosseum, especially during high season; in particular, entrance to the Colosseum depends on the maximum capacity, set in 3000 persons. We recommend the afternoon to avoid the crowds.
Your jackets and bags will be scanned by a metal detector at the Colosseum. Knifes, cutters, multipurpose tools and any sharp object that might represent a danger for the works of art will be seized at the sole discretion of the museum personnel.
Large backpacks, tripods, and long umbrellas will have to be left at the entrance and be collected at the exit (this service is free of charge, but we suggest not to bring with you these objects).
- 3-hour private tour with an expert licensed tour guide of Rome
- skip-the-line tickets
- radio headphones (depends on group size)
- any other personal expense
Here are some important things to know in order to ensure you have the best possible experience with your tour:
- the itinerary is indicative and can be changed in case some monument is inaccessible for restoration
- having a camera with you is your choice. Someone prefers to immerse in beauty not being distracted by taking pictures/making videos, someone else prefers to build printable memories of his trip. It’s really up to you
- if you are travelling to Rome in Spring/Summer time, it is highly recommended to bring with you a hat, high protection sun cream, sunglasses, water and wear comfortable shoes. In Fall/Winter time instead, it is highly recommended to have an umbrella or a raincoat and wear waterproof shoes
Your entrance tickets for this tour are bought immediately to avoid availability issues, and they are not refundable. If you cancel this tour at least 8 days in advance, there is a cancellation fee of € 30/person. There is no refund in case of late cancellations (in the final 7 days).
My husband has difficulties walking and is also hard of hearing, so we had to have a private tour that went at our pace. We also needed a guide who spoke clear and fluent English. Our initial queries were dealt with speedily and efficiently by Andrea in the office. Alice our guide was fantastic. She was professional and courteous throughout. Her knowledge was second to none. And she kept it easy to understand. She looked after us and was very attentive throughout. This tour made our holiday unforgettable. Thanks very much Alice!

Memorable tour. We had a guide (Antonella) with an amazing knowledge of history. She helped us with pictures to show what was in place of the ancient ruins, making Ancient Rome come alive. The Colosseum is a must see, but with a private guide it’s all another matter.
Thanks to Guidaly for organizing our private tour of the majestic Colosseum! Andrea was very patient and organized our tour in the details. The guide Chiara had an amazing knowledge of the history of Rome and spoke English very well. We really enjoyed this tour and we would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Rome.

We won’t forget the Colosseum very soon. Guidaly staff suggested to take the tour in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds, and we actually found the monument almost empty. The guide, Antonella, was excellent making Ancient Rome appear in place of the ruins.
we had the best tour.. so much great info and questions answered no matter the historical time ( ancient and recent!)
and there were so many questions
we totally loved our tour of the colesseum and the forum
the day was extremely hot 40°+
we had plenty of water stops ( take a bottle there are fountains for drinking water all over the 2 sites) and also lots of shaded stops to chat and ask more questions..
the History is overwhelming and was brought back down to earth by Madeleana our tour guide…. who expertly put some perspective to the forum especially because you need to have an overview view with lots of imagination and with out a guide would of been a hopeless case otherwise
We were kept thoroughly entertained for 3 hours
you definitely need at least this amount if time to see these 2 areas…
So well done to our guide ( who also does lots of other your types… we ran into her the next day @ the Vatican)
you made our experience meaning full and fun
Cheers from your Melbourne group

Having traveled all over the world I have taken quite a few tours of different kinds. While In Rome I wanted to learn more about Rome as it was in Ancient times so I signed up for the Ancient Rome Tour and was paired with Antonella. The tour was the perfect length of time at about 3 hours; I had plenty of time to see quite a bit and learn more than I thought I could and I didn’t get super exhausted.
We had Chiara take our group of four at the last min. Then we were about 15 mins late getting to the meeting point but she didn’t care as she smiled all day. Now to the important part: Chiara’s university education in historic played such a large role in our afternoon. She was able to add so many more details that we could have never gotten on our own. She had such keen insight of the history we were looking at. She is so cute too. Her English was great and we all understood her all of the time. I travel a lot around the world and can be quite annul conceding things like this, but I am happy from the first start to finish. Keep up the good work Chiara
We homeschool our children so we vacation as often as possible. Going to Rome was the most amazing trip because we were studying ancient Rome at the time and we discovered the Ancient Rome Tour. It was incredible! The tour was incredibly educational and we learned more on our tour than in any textbook we’ve read so far; go to this tour while you’re in Rome!

For our honeymoon my husband promised to take me to Rome, so when he surprised me with plane tickets at our reception I was totally blown away! The best part though was that he had set up a different private tour for every day of our trip, most of which was going to take place in Rome. During our trip we were able to enjoy so many different sites and tours I was so incredibly happy. I think if I had to choose my favorite tours of the vacation they would be of the ones we did in Rome; the Ancient Rome tour, the Hidden Rome tour and the Rome at Sunset tour. Every tour was paired with the perfect tour guide, and I learned more about my favorite country in the world than I ever thought possible! I look forward to coming back to Italy soon and taking as many tours in other cities as we can.
Our group of 10 thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days of walking tour with Alice in Rome. She was always punctual, cheerful, and helpful. Being a native of Rome, she has great knowledge of Rome attractions and public transport. She went beyond and above to meet us and send us back to our B&B. Communicating with Alice was a breeze. She speaks excellent Italian and English. All emails, and online chats were answered promptly. We would highly recommend her service in Rome. Thank you.

This tour gave us an amazing insight on the daily life of the ancient romans. The ruins literally came to life for us, it was like having a time machine!
We received clear instructions where to meet and found our tour guide easily. She took great care of us – her pacing was great and she was quick to make sure we had everything we needed. We very much enjoyed our 3 hour tour of the Colosseum and Forum with Antonella.
This summer I took my daughter to Italy. I wanted it to be fun and a learning experience as well. I booked a private tour with Chiara, she was fun, smart and very knowledgeable.
We visited the Coliseum without the long lines which was great!
